History of UANSS

Ucwalmicw All Nations Services Society (UANSS) journey began in 2006 which operated under the name of In-SHUCK-ch Services Society (ISS). Then, ISS served the communities of Douglas, Samahquam, and Skatin Nations. ISS started to proceed to close its doors in 2016-2017 fiscal year. The Directors seen a need to keep the organization to help those living in the Fraser Valley. With many discussions with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) UANSS was officially declared a registered non-profit society on September 3, 2019. We are 100% Indigenous operational small non-profit organization who exclusively relies on grant funding, donations, and fundraising.

The UANSS Constitution are as follows:

  • To improve the well-being of the aboriginal people in the Fraser Valley and Vancouver areas with health care workshops, seminars, referrals and transportation for medical treatment and medical consultation services;

  • To relieve poverty by providing assistance to the needy in finding shelter and food;

  • To advance education by establishing and operating facilities to provide space for workshops and training sessions;

  • To provide cultural facilities and forums to teach traditional practices, such as basket-weaving, drum-making and languages;

  • To provide a lunch program to undernourished aboriginal students;

  • To provide scholarships and bursaries for scholastic achievement to aboriginal students;

  • To seek partnerships with existing societies and agencies to ensure an aging-out program for youth aging out of foster care;

  • To undertake research on the socio-economic profile of Aboriginal peoples in the Vancouver and Fraser Valley Regions in order to provide potential economic opportunities;

  • To relieve the needs amongst the unemployed by providing training, job searches, jobs, and micro-lending programs for Aboriginal peoples; and

  • To provide access to the services and programs that come of these purposes.
